Founded in 1972 by Edgar Hughston in Columbus and Harris County, Georgia, Hughston Homes was built on a simple yet powerful mission: to create homes that people would not only be proud of, but also proud to call their own. Edgar’s vision was clear—he wanted to build homes that embodied quality craftsmanship, attention to detail, and lasting value. After researching other builders in the area, he saw an opportunity to create homes that would stand the test of time and foster thriving communities where families could truly feel at home.

In 2002, Jack Hughston joined the family business, bringing the same passion and commitment to excellence that his father had instilled. Together, they continued to build on Edgar’s vision. Even in 2008, when the housing market faced major challenges, Hughston Homes persevered. Rather than faltering, the company not only withstood the economic downturn but expanded its reach, developing several new communities across Georgia and venturing into East Alabama. This resilience is a testament to the strong foundation of quality and trust that has defined Hughston Homes for more than five decades.

In 2020, Hughston Homes took a major step forward with the creation of Hughston Homes Marketing, a corporate office focused on refining build schedules, production, and ensuring exceptional customer service long after home completion. The following year, in 2021, we became 100% employee-owned through an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), giving our team a direct stake in the company’s success. This move reflected our longstanding commitment to empowering employees and treating the business as their own, ensuring the best possible homes and homeownership experiences.

Over the past decade, we’ve continued to innovate and grow, introducing new products, home plans, and communities.
