Three Years Running. Thank You, Columbus.

For the third year in a row, Hughston Homes has been voted Best Home Builder in Columbus by Ledger-Enquirer readers in the Columbus’ People’s Choice awards. You can see the full list of this year’s winners here.

There is no panel of judges behind this one and no application we filled out. Every vote came from someone who lives here, and who decided we were worth naming again. That is what makes it mean so much.

Winning once is an honor. Winning three years in a row means something different. It means the homeowners who got their keys three years ago still feel good about the choice they made. It means the walkthroughs, the phone calls, the punch lists, and the small fixes long after closing all added up to something. That is the part we are most thankful for.

Where This Started

Edgar Hughston started building homes right here in Columbus more than 50 years ago. One builder, a truck, and a short list of people willing to take a chance on him. What grew out of that is now two generations deep and still headquartered in the same city where it started.

So when you sit down with us to talk about a homesite or a floor plan, you are talking to people who have watched this area grow for five decades. We know which roads got widened and why. We know how the light hits a lot on Hubbard Road in the afternoon. That kind of knowledge is not something you can hire from out of town.

When the Builders Are Also the Owners

In 2021, Hughston Homes became 100 percent employee owned through an Employee Stock Ownership Plan. For our team of more than 100 people, that changed the math. The framer, the superintendent, the design consultant, the customer care rep who answers your call in month eight: every one of them owns a piece of this company.

You can feel that on a jobsite. It shows up in the way a superintendent walks a house before drywall goes up, looking for the thing nobody would have noticed for two years. It shows up in how fast someone calls you back. When your name is on the company, you do not leave loose ends.

The person building your home is not just finishing a job. They are protecting something they own.

The Ones Who Live in What They Build

Plenty of our team members do not just build Hughston Homes. They buy them.

Seth Keller in our Customer Care department is the clearest example. Seth came to us as a homeowner first, building his first Hughston Home in 2020 after a move to Auburn. The design process is what got his attention. The way the build actually went, and the people who walked him through it, is what stuck with him. He liked it enough to come work here, and he has built two more Hughston Homes since.

Nobody asks an employee to do that. You do it because you already know what you are getting.

Columbus, Midland, and Harris County

Drive around long enough and you will find us. Established streets in North Columbus, new communities on the edge of Midland, rolling ground up in Harris County. Each of those areas has its own rhythm, and picking the right one matters as much as picking the right floor plan.

If you want sidewalks, mature trees nearby, and a neighborhood where you actually see people out walking, North Columbus is worth a look. Heiferhorn Farms off Hubbard Road sits right in that pocket, about 18 minutes from the main gate at Fort Benning.

Midland gives you a middle ground. More space around you, a slower pace, and Midland Commons and Manchester Expressway close enough that groceries and dinner in the heart of Columbus stay easy. Bower’s Creek off County Line Road puts you right in the middle of it, roughly 23 minutes to the main gate.

Head north into Harris County and the terrain starts to move. Hills, long views, and a genuinely rural feel that still keeps you about 19 minutes from post. Mountain Point Villas sits in that stretch.
